In this entertaining Spring Play production, Puck and Oberon are returning to a wood near Athens, as directed at the end of A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Puck mistakenly follows a sign that says "A Wood Near Athens." That sign is on a 1934 Hollywood sound stage at Warner Bros. They become engulfed in this movie that's being made around them. "This play is about the clash of high culture and popular comedy in America, especially in the world of the movies," Ludwig said in his production notes. "It's also about how the imagination is such an important part of all our lives. These themes are set in the world of a 1930s screwball comedy.”
Director Anne James-Noonan shares; “Our audiences may be surprised to learn that this story is based on an actual film adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and that there is some historical accuracy in the script. The student actors had fun preparing for the production by watching scenes from this movie that featured some of the real life characters in the play. We are also very lucky to work with a fantastic costume designer and wig designer to transform our cast into these wacky, memorable characters from 1935.”
