The pandemic may have caused plenty of disruption over the last two years, but it’s also presented unique opportunities for arts organizations to get creative and try out innovative new programming models. While the month of February normally sees audiences gather at venues for the Wavelength Winter Festival, 2022 once again sees us doing something new and different.

Throughout the month of March, Wavelength will be presenting a weekly Speaker Series, premiering each Wednesday evening on YouTube. All online and entirely free, the Wavelength Winter Festival: Speaker Series is presented with a focus on community care. While experiencing live arts can be difficult at this time, art is what breathes motivation, mobilization, and creative change.

Join us in conversation with some of our most beloved creators as they share stories that inspire new corridors of possibility and above all, hope.

About Casey Mecija

Casey Mecija is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication & Media Studies at York University and holds a PhD from the University of Toronto. Her current research examines sound as a mode of affective, psychic and social representation, specifically in relation to diasporic experience. Drawing on sound studies, queer diaspora studies and Filipinx Studies, her research considers how sensorial encounters are enmeshed and disciplined by social and psychic conditions. Her work suggests that media production enables diasporic people to create forms of belonging that defy racialized ascriptions born from racism, colonialism, and their gendered dimensions. She is also the former lead singer of the band, Ohbijou and released a solo record titled, Psychic Materials in 2016.

About Radwan Ghazi Moumneh

Radwan Ghazi Moumneh is a Canadian recording engineer, producer, and musician. Moumneh's family fled the Lebanese Civil War for the Sultanate of Oman, where he grew up, moving to Montreal in 1993. Throughout the mid 1990s and early 2000s Moumneh recorded, and toured with, a number of Montreal-based hardcore and punk bands such as The Black Hand and IRE. In 2004 Moumneh established the Hotel2Tango recording studio with Howard Bilerman, Efrim Menuck, and Thierry Amar (the later two are core members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra). In 2005 Moumneh began performing live as Jerusalem In My Heart with a number of collaborators, a project with whom he has released two full-length records. Jerusalem In My Heart also released a collaborative album with Suuns - Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart- (whom Moumneh had previously recorded). As a recording engineer and producer Moumneh has worked with an assortment of acts including Suuns, Mashrou' Leila, ...And the Saga Continues, Matana Roberts, and Ought (band).
