Event Description

Zachary Good returns to Pittsburgh for a few short weeks and will be giving a clarinet recital to help support his graduate studies at DePaul University this fall. Come see what he's been up to for the past four years!

There is a suggested admission for this event but please feel free to give as much or as little as you want at the door. All proceeds go towards his graduate studies at DePaul.

Assisting him will be pianist Suzanne Polak and violist Carrie Frey. The program will include works by Schumann, Messiaen, Rebecca Clarke, and Bernstein.

Zachary Good graduated this May from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance. At Oberlin, he had the privilege of studying clarinet with Richard Hawkins. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Zachary began taking clarinet lessons at the age of ten with Eric Nelson. His interest in studying and performing classical music beyond high school was established after joining the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2007.
At Oberlin, he performed in a variety of ensembles, including the Oberlin Symphonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, the Contemporary Music Ensemble, Oberlin's SCIencemble, the Oberlin Renaissance Recorder Consort, and the Oberlin Javanese Gamelan Ensemble.
He has spent summers at the National Orchestral Institute, the Round Top Festival Institute, and the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute. This summer he will attend the Aspen Music Festival as a fellowship student of the Aspen Contemporary Music Ensemble. Furthermore, he has performed in master classes for Yehuda Gilad, Larry Combs, Ricardo Morales, and Michael Wayne. Other influential figures include Ron Samuels of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and bassoonist George Sakakeeny of Oberlin.
In addition to his clarinet major, Good earned a Minor in historical performance on the baroque recorder as a student of Kathryn Montoya. He will perform with Oberlin Baroque this June at the Boston Early Music Festival. Next year, Zachary will attend DePaul University's School of Music to study with Larry Combs for his Master of Music degree in clarinet performance.
