JEN ISKOW is an artist, graphic designer, writer, and musician living in Thomas, WV. Originally from Frederick, Maryland, Jen has called West Virginia home for nearly a decade. Upon graduating from West Virginia University in 2014 with a BA in Design, she traveled throughout the region and beyond, working as a Marketing Coordinator for Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, West Virginia, an Americorps VISTA at Appalshop in Whitesburg, Kentucky, a Regional Chapter Coordinator for Generation West Virginia, a waitress at Hellbender Burritos, and a freelance designer and illustrator for her own one-woman business Beartown Design Studio (Jen made all the artwork for this project!). Jen is currently a WV Folklife Apprenticeship Fellow, studying traditional Appalachian old-time fiddle and folklore of Central West Virginia under master artist, John D. Morris. For project inquiries or more information, visit www.beartowndesign.com or contact Jen at jiskow@beartowndesign.com.

KEEGAN LESTER’s “poems resemble other contemporary poems in their blend of autobiographical detail set against a semi-surreal backdrop. Yet instead of the noncommittal emotional trajectory that often accompanies this kind of writing, Lester’s poems are driven by gratitude—love for his friends, and the landscape of West Virginia—and this hopefulness makes the book feel enviably more generous than its more nihilistic counterparts,” wrote Mikko Harvey in the The Kenyon Review. Keegan Lester is an American writer. His collection of poetry was selected by Mary Ruefle for the Slope Editions Book Prize. He is finishing his first collection of essays, which is tentatively titled It is Believed that Dinosaurs Once Cooed like Doves. His work has been published at Boston Review, Volume 1 Brooklyn, The Academy of American Poets, Hobart and The Journal among others and has been featured on NPR and at The Rumpus.
