About Our Unique Level 3 in Spirits Program

Here at Palate Partners we are offering a very special Level 3 in Spirits program designed to help take your studies to the next level. As part of our mission to set all our students up for success we are taking a hybrid approach to this course coupling WSET’s online offering with tasting sessions and a palate calibration session preceding the exam!

This class set will include the online course offered by WSET running from June 7th through August 8th. The online program is work at our own pace, but we will be checking in to keep you on track. In addition to the online session we will be holding zoom-style tasting sessions with celebrated spirits expert and educator Kellie Thorn. After completion of the online course there will also be a very special  in-person session designed to help calibrate your palate in preparation for the tasting portion of your exam. The following day you will have your exam.

Outline of the course

  • Online program: June 7th - August 8th

  • Tasting Session 1: June 10th

  • Tasting Session 2: July 1st

  • Tasting Session 3: July 29th

  • In-person Plate Calibration session:  August 14th

  • In-person Exam: August 15th

About WSET Level 3 in Spirits

The WSET Level 3 Award in Spirits is an advanced-level qualification for professionals and enthusiasts wishing to acquire a detailed understanding of the spirits of the world and develop the tasting skills required to accurately describe and evaluate a spirit.

This qualification is intended to build on knowledge and skills gained from the Level 2 Award in Spirits. You’ll acquire a deep theoretical understanding of the techniques used in spirit production, from the processing of raw materials to post-distillation operations. Through a combination of tasting and the application of theoretical knowledge you will learn to explain confidently why spirits look and taste the way they do and how and why they differ from each other.

This qualification has a minimum requirement of 84 hours of study time including: 30 hours delivery time with an online WSET course provider, 51 ½ hours of study and revision, and a 2 ½ hour examination.

Please review the Class Specification Link Here.

About the Exam:

The 2½ hour closed-book examination is made up of two units. In the first unit you will complete 50 multiple-choice questions as well as a series of short answer questions. Unit 2 will be a tasting examination of two spirit samples tasted blind.

You will need to pass both parts of the theory examination (Unit 1), and the tasting examination (Unit 2), to achieve the qualification.

On successful completion of the examination you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated certified logo.
