What We Talk about When We Talk about Rape: Sohaila Abdulali with Chiké Frankie Edozien

A survivor, writer, counselor, and activist offers an honest examination of sexual assault, and the process of recovering joy.

After she was gang-raped as a 17-year-old, Sohaila Abdulali became the first in India to speak out about her experience as a survivor of sexual assault. Following three decades of grappling with the issue personally and professionally, What We Talk About When We Talk About Rapeexamines sexual assault and the global discourse on rape from the viewpoint of a survivor, writer, counselor and activist. Abdulali draws on her own experience, her work with hundreds of survivors as the head of a rape crisis center in Boston, as well as interviews with survivors from around the world, to tackle some of our thorniest questions about sexual violence and how we want to raise the next generation.

Abdulali will be joined in conversation by Chiké Frankie Edozien, author of Lambda Literary Award-winning memoir Lives of Great Men: Living and Loving as an African Gay Man.
