Zorongo Flamenco presents
What the Moon Sees
April 11-14, 2019

Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre presents “What The Moon Sees” – a layered collage of theater flamenco performances directed by multi-award winning dancer-choreographer Artistic Director Susana di Palma. The concert will consist of original contemporary works by Spanish Choreographer Belén Maya, Puerto Rican Choreographer Jeanne d’Arc Casas, and French Choreographer Fanny Ara. Woven among these works will be Susana di Palma’s “Casita,” a premiered work on homeless women.

“What The Moon Sees” will reflect the scope of Zorongo’s unique theater/flamenco vision that continues to invent, inspire and has enriched our community for 36 years. The evening will feature live music – guitar, vocal, and percussion.

The Lab Theater provides a unique space to have simultaneous scenes/choreographies happening at one time. “Casita” will be seen and “not seen,” just as the homeless are “seen but not seen.” The layering of realities – the artistic, creative world and the deprivation of those without homes reflect our cities, our affluence.

“Casita” will feature Dancers Jeanne d’Arc Casas and Susana di Palma, original music performed by Composer/Guitarist Ben Abrahamson, Blues/Gospel Singer/Pianist/Composer Billy Steele with Blues/Gospel Singer Tonya Hughes and flamenco Singer/Percussionist Jose Moreno.

“Casita” will be “work-shopped” at Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography in Tallahassee, Florida in January 2019 as part of di Palma’s 2017 McKnight Fellowship for Choreography.
