Exhibition-Related Workshops

Jonathan Lyndon Chase: Big Wash

In the fall of 2019, when the hardships of 2020 were unimaginable, Jonathan Lyndon Chase came to FWM to create a repeat design to screenprint on fabric. The resulting yardage, Bending $ag, was printed with orange butterflies and a lattice of plaid woven through a field of rosebuds.

When asked, Lyndon Chase said they are taking time to care for themself and others during this pandemic. They are taking time for tenderness, time for washing their intimates in the bathtub, and time to lovingly do their husband's hair. Inspired by Jonathan Lyndon Chase’s exhibition Big Wash, participants will create a relief rubbing, repeat print using collage, printing, and drawing techniques.

Participants will need paper, scissors, and drawing materials for this workshop.

$5 per person

Elisabeth Kley: Minutes of Sand

Reflecting the depth of her curiosity and the richness of the sources that inspire her, the decorated surfaces and printed patterns in Elisabeth Kley’s work radiate joy, opulence, and the human experience. Participants will virtually tour Elisabeth Kley: Minutes of Sand and then create their own original forms and decorative patterns using a repurposed cereal box, copy paper, and drawing tools.

We recommend that participants have paper, scissors, drawing materials, tape, and a cereal box for this workshop.

$5 per person

Hard/Cover: Moonlight and Marbling

FWM invited contemporary ceramics artists to work collaboratively with our studio staff to experiment with the screenprinting process. These collaborations sparked new discoveries for the artists and for all of us at FWM. Workshop participants will tour the exhibition and then use common household materials to explore experimental techniques inspired by our Hard/Cover artists!

Participants will receive an email listing the household materials recommended for this workshop.

$5 per person

Print and Process at The Fabric Workshop and Museum

How do different artists deepen our understanding of the world around us? How do they collaborate with FWM to design and create works using innovative technology and traditional techniques? Discover the compelling stories of our artists projects, learning how artist’s ideas develop and evolve through collaboration and experimentation. Then, imagine yourself in the role of an artist in residence by shaping a vision for an imagined residency, creating sketches and plans, and experimenting with common household materials to start realizing your idea!

We recommend that participants have paper and drawing materials for this workshop.
