Join us for a special trip to the Frank Lloyd Wright's Boswell House and Cincinnati Art Museum. We will start our day with a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boswell House, a privately owned Wright home located in Indian Hill. This unusually spacious Usonian home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the William Boswell family and built in 1961.
We will continue with lunch at the Cincinnati Art Museum, where we will view two special exhibitions: “No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man” and "Kimono: Refashioning Contemporary Style."
Fresh from the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, "No Spectators" exhibition features stunning immersive room-sized installations, mutant art vehicles, creative costuming, films, jewelry and more. Burning Man attracts more than 70,000 active participants from all over the globe who gather in the desert outside Reno, Nevada. This thriving temporary metropolis is a hotbed of artistic expression and innovation through its shared principles. Both a cultural movement and an annual event, Burning Man is one of the most influential happenings in contemporary American art and culture.
"Kimono: Refashioning Contemporary Style" celebrates the enduring influence of the kimono on fashion. Inspired by materials, forms and decorative motifs since the opening of Japan in the mid-nineteenth century, western fashion designers, alongside other artists, have produced works that acknowledge a Japanese persuasion. Organized in partnership with the Kyoto Costume Institute and Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, this exhibition displays Japanese kimono side by side with western fashionable garments from the 1870s to today. Featured designers include Gabrielle Chanel, John Galliano, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Iris van Herpen, Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo—plus over a dozen examples from CAM’s permanent collection.
Special thanks to Antonella Bigi and Francesco Scarpari & Salvagnini Inc. for hosting our group at the Boswell House.
