Event Description

Shahzia Sikander, The Illustrated Page Series #3, 2005–2006. Work on paper (gouache hand painting, gold leaf, and silkscreen pigment). 80x66 inches (framed). Edition 3/3.

Former Artists-in-Residence, Jiha Moon and Shahzia Sikander imbued ancient techniques with a contemporary perspective to capture the past and the present in their highly detailed works. Experience these artists’ visions in our current exhibitions, Workshop As... and Narrative Terrain: Landscape as Storytelling, and explore the process materials from their artist boxes in our archives. Then, head to our studio to learn the ancient technique of Suminagashi—Japanese paper marbling. Each week, we’ll glean inspiration from works on view in current exhibitions or from artist boxes in our archives to learn a new skill to use in the classroom or your own personal art practice.
