Subject: Announcing the 22nd Annual Memphis Bound Competition

The Blues Society of WNY is proud to announce that registration is now open for the 22nd Annual Memphis Bound Competition being held Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 7pm inside the Sportsmen's Tavern, Buffalo, NY.

The Memphis Bound Competition is one of the Blues Society's Blues Foundation affiliate programs.  The Blues Society of WNY participates in the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, TN with other affiliate Blues societies from the US, Canada, and beyond.  Over 260 Blues acts, industry professional and over 3000 Blues fans participate each year.  The International Blues Challenge takes place from January 28-February 1, 2020 on Beale St. in Memphis.  Each local affiliate will hold a competition for solo/duo and band Blues acts according to Blues Foundation guidelines.  The winners in the solo/duo category and the band category will then compete in Memphis representing their sponsoring Society.  The Blues Society of WNY will accept applications for all solo, duo and band acts within a 200 mi. Radius of Buffalo, NY.  A panel of esteemed judges will determine a winner for a solo/do and a band act using the Blues Foundation’s Blues criteria.

In addition to the professional competition, the Blues Foundation also allows affiliates to submit an act for the Youth Showcase held on Beale St. during the IBC.  The Youth Showcase provides youth Blues musicians an opportunity to “showcase” their talent in Memphis, network with the professional Blues community and participate in educational events.  The Youth Showcase act is chosen from entrants who email a letter of interest along with a performance video and is voted on by the Board of Directors.  Any interested youth can email memphisbound@wnyblues.org for consideration.

The Best Self Produced CD contest is an additional opportunity for regional recognition in Memphis during the IBC.  The Blues Society of WNY holds a local contest and the winner is decided by a Board vote should more than one entry be received.  Rules are provided by the Blues Foundation.

Attached you will find our 2019 Memphis Bound Registration packet, press release and poster.  We have a strong Blues community in WNY and the Blues Society of WNY is here to support Blues Musicians with providing a cash prize and supporting fundraising efforts to make their trip to Memphis an unforgettable experience.  This is WNY’s time to shine on an international Blues stage.

Applications are due for the Memphis Bound Competition no later than 8/16/19.
