The Songwriter Series: Lucy Kaplansky

Lucy Kaplansky returns to Steamboat for the first time since her appearance at Strings in 2010. Her sexy, sultry, emotional voice adds great depth to her deep, heart-felt songs. “It’s inevitable that as you get older and your life deepens you find more ways of connecting to an even larger circle of people,” says Lucy. “I find myself clearer about my priorities, my purpose, my politics and my faith.” Lucy’s circle of friends is indeed vast, singing with such greats as Shawn Colvin, Bryan Ferry, Nanci Griffith, Patti Larkin and Suzanne Vega. In 1998, she teamed up with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell to form the popular and quite successful folk super group Cry, Cry, Cry. In 2010, she joined long-time friends John Gorka and Eliza Gilkyson to form another trio, Redhorse, which also received vast national attention. Lucy’s rising popularity has led to appearances on the CBS Morning Show, NPR’s Weekend and Morning Editions and All Things Considered, Mountain Stage, and West Coast Live. Lucy continues to perform all over the world. When not performing, she lives in New York City, where she enjoys spending time with her husband and ten year-old daughter.
