The Original Knickerbocker: Washington Irving & "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" 

Did you know Washington Irving lived through a viral epidemic, too?  And why is he called the Original Knickerbocker anyway?  Come on this one-hour walking tour and find out!  

Learn more about the talented Mr. Irving, his enormous impact on American Literature and the enduring appeal of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", which recently celebrated its Bicentennial!  

It's a fun way to spend an hour exploring the south end of the cemetery!

COVID-19 POLICY:  In accordance with updated New York State and CDC guidance, masks will be optional for fully vaccinated individuals. Patrons not yet vaccinated for COVID-19 continue to be responsible for wearing masks, in accordance with federal CDC guidance.

Please note that if only 1 ticket shows as available during the purchase process that is the only (i.e., last) ticket available. 

Dates: Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. through November.  Also on weekdays in October and the first week of November. 

Location: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery South Gate, 430 North Broadway.

Parking:  There is plenty of free parking inside the gate.

Skill level: This tour includes a steep hill, some stairs and grassy, unpaved gravel roads. There is no place to sit down during the tour.  Please consider your own abilities before purchasing tickets.  Feel free to call the office to discuss any specific concerns.  

Refunds, exchanges: All sales are final. No exchanges or refunds unless tour/event is canceled.

Weather: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery walking tours run rain or shine. If a tour is canceled due to severe weather such as high winds, lightning, or heavy rain, we will promptly refund the ticket purchase price, less processing fees.  Cancellations will be posted at least one hour before tour time on our website and Facebook page.  We will also contact you via the email and phone number provided during the purchase process.
