Event Description

SHEA PRESENTS: John Hodgman and Monte Belmonte’s Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, December 17th! This wonderful event returns after a multi-year hiatus, featuring comedian John Hodgman and the Shea's own board president Monte Belmonte. We'll have special guests Jonathan Coulton and Jean Grae for musical talent.

ABOUT JOHN HODGMAN

John Hodgman is an American author, actor, and humorist. In addition to his published written works, such as The Areas of My Expertise, More Information Than You Require, Medallion Status, and That Is All, he is known for his personification of a PC in contrast to Justin Long's personification of a Mac in Apple's "Get a Mac" advertising campaign, and for his work as a contributor on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He also has a podcast, "Judge John Hodgman," that occasionally features Monte as a guest bailiff.

ABOUT MONTE BELMONTE

Monte Belmonte is the fake name of a person who WAS a radio host at 93.9 The River by day and STILL IS President of the Board of the Shea by night (and sometimes day).

ABOUT JONATHAN COULTON

Jonathan Coulton is known for his eclectic catalog of masterful songwriting on subjects from zombies and mad scientists to sad parents and dissatisfied software engineers. He’s written songs for The Good Fight and Braindead TV series, as well as the Portal video games, and Spongebob Squarepants: The Broadway Musical. He was the house musician for the NPR show Ask Me Another and is the host and namesake of an annual floating nerd convention called JoCo Cruise.

ABOUT JEAN GRAE

Jean Grae is a polymathic genius person. Her acclaimed artistic career has spanned music, comedy, acting, directing, and everything else. Her one woman show JENIUS was performed at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater in NYC, and her memoir, IN MY REMAINING YEARS, is forthcoming from Flatiron Books.

ABOUT JOSHUA KANTOR

Joshua Kantor is the organist for Boston Red Sox home games at Fenway Park and plays keyboards and organ for the bands Jim's Big Ego, the Split Squad, and the Baseball Project.

ABOUT HEATHER MALONEY

After over 1,000 live shows and more than a decade of touring behind studio albums, Heather Maloney is set to release her first live album, “No Shortcuts | Live at the Academy” in June of 2022 on the celebrated indie label, Signature Sounds.

The Massachusetts-based “writer song-singer” found music in the midst of three years at a meditation center, honing a sound moored in days of silent reflection and reverence for storytellers like Joni, Rilke, Ken Burns, and the anonymous authors of Zen parables. And while she eventually traded the quiet, structured life as a yogi for the kinetic life a touring musician, the core of her songwriting remains centered around same curiosity about our inner world and the desire to articulate it through storytelling. She now has eight studio album releases under her belt, each one marked by inspiring collaborations with musicians, songwriters and producers.

“Utterly gorgeous – visceral.” – Val Haller, New York Times

“Her not-so-secret weapon is that voice ”– Boston Globe

“Delicious... really excellent” – Graham Nash

“...stunning, breathy, and starkly memorable.” – SPIN Magazine

ABOUT HIGH TEA

High Tea, the indie-folk duo hailing from Boston MA, is a concoction of sweepingly soulful harmonies, guitar riffs to knock your socks off, and a refreshing blend of old blues and new pop. Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Isabella DeHerdt and vocalist/ percussionist Isaac Eliot have come together to fill spaces with homegrown story telling and Lumineer-esque vocals. Their songs are ripe with americana heartbreak and tell tales of growing up, going wild, and always coming back to the ones you love. Come sit by the fire and find a piece of yourself in the music of High Tea.
