Event Description

How might a philosopher and a dancer, a psychologist and a musician, or a scientist and a theologian interpret works of art in an exhibition? What might their conversation sound like as they look at art together?

In conjunction with the exhibition, When Modern Was Contemporary: Selections from the Roy R. Neuberger Collection, we invite you to a series of Take Two programs that feature different voices and unique perspectives to explore and interpret the art. This Take Two will feature Dr. Karl Salatka and Renata Marino.

Dr. Salatka recently retired from a 37 year career as a general surgeon in the Alle-Kiski Valley. This Export native began collecting art in the late 1970s with a work by Frank Stella, from his Synagogues of Historic Poland Series. He has always had a preference for modernism; drawn to the emotional attachment that this work provokes.

Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Renata Marino graduated from Point Park University as a Musical Theatre Performance Major. A professional actor, choreographer and teacher, her work has been seen on the stages of Pittsburgh Musical Theater, The Pittsburgh Playhouse, The City Theatre, St. Vincent Summer Theatre and Stage Right! where she is the School Coordinator and Resident Choreographer. She is the founder of Stage Right’s Spectrum Theatre Initiative, which uses theater to reach those on the spectrum or with special needs.

Please join them in the Cantilever Gallery to hear their take on the art and be part of the conversation.
