Event Description

Faith Ringgold, Tar Beach #2, 1990. Acid dyes on bleached silk dupioni, and cotton. 65 x 65 inches. Edition of 24.

Got a story to tell? Draw inspiration from Faith Ringgold’s quilt, “Tar Beach #2,” which tells a story through image and text of a young African American girl who grows up in Harlem, spending her time outdoors on the rooftops of her urban landscape. Learn to tell your own personal and collective stories using the process of screenprinting with French clay resist and dyeing with indigo. Enhance your studio or teaching practice with this five-week summer skill building series. Each week, we’ll glean inspiration from works on view in current exhibitions or from artist boxes in our archives to learn a new skill to use in the classroom or your own personal art practice.
