Event Description
State of the Industry Panel

In the aftermath of Covid and the SAG and WGA strikes, the film industry is struggling to regain its footing. At the same time, independent filmmakers are having a tough time finding both financing and distribution outlets. But as the industry searches for solutions, the universal love for movies and movie-going only continues to grow. What does the future of filmmaking, distribution and exhibition look like? And how is the industry working to support and protect the creative community and the theatrical exhibition space? Panelists include: Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa (Producers, Little Miss Sunshine, Nebraska, Election), Phil Contrino (Head of Research, National Assoc. of Theater Owners), Susan Fox (Senior VP, The Walt Disney Company) Ted Hope (Producer, former head of Amazon Original Movies), Karyn Temple (Senior Exec. VP & General Counsel, MPA), Derval Whelan (Head of Distribution, Searchlight Pictures). Moderated by The Washington Post’s Ann Hornaday.

Co-presented with the Motion Picture Association.
