Event Description

The event will begin with a tour of Lyndhurst Mansion. This one-hour tour covers two floors and gives visitors a rare glimpse of the lavish decorative arts and furniture left at Lyndhurst by previous owners. The tour visits approximately 16 rooms and involves climbing one staircase with 25 steps.

Guests of the Spring Tea and Tour will then adjourn to the carriage room of the Welcome Center. They will enjoy a short program, led by Bridget Bray, owner of the Puddings and Biscakes teas, exploring the art of correspondence in the Victorian and Gilded Age, including handwritten letters, calling cards, formal invitations, and the objects and customs that supported these exchanges.

Guests will discover how these thoughtful forms of communication conveyed beauty and meaning, and how they brought mothers, daughters, and friends together for social occasions.

This will be a mini afternoon tea service that will include small tea sandwiches, scones, and a Victorian sponge. While not a full meal, this mini afternoon tea will include slightly more food and new savory options than our normal sweet tea service!

Seating will be community style, but guests booked together will be seated together. This will be ideally suited for guests to join on their own or with others.

Also at Lyndhurst only on May 9th, guests can shop at our Mother's Day Weekend Plant Sale! The plant sale runs from 9am to 1pm. Bring your mother and spend the day touring the mansion, sipping tea in an 1860s Carriage House, and perusing the plant sale put on by our local gardeners and florists.
