We know so little about the 'minor nation' of insects, as Emily Dickinson aptly observed; it is a vastly unexplored universe we walk by daily. Wild bees occupy that universe to the tune over 400 species in Maryland. Come and look into their world through extreme macro photographs, crazy details of their lives, and learn the simple tricks it takes to invite these bees to your garden.
Sam Droege has spent most of his career studying wildlife at USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. He has coordinated the North American Breeding Bird Survey Program, developed the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program, the Bioblitz, Cricket Crawl, and FrogwatchUSA programs and worked on the design and evaluation of monitoring programs. He is currently developing an inventory and monitoring program for native bees and online identification guides for North American bees at www.discoverlife.org.
