Part of a national “Science on Screen” program, this is the first of three events pairing a feature film with a science expert who will speak about current scientific research or technological advances surrounding the film’s topic.
Topic: How to get the absolute most out of your home harvest: The science of preserving the nutrition and taste of fresh food.
Discussion with: Susan Marquesen, a Penn State Master Gardener and a Penn State Master Food Preserver. Plus, members of the Pittsburgh Canning Exchange will be present to demonstrate various preservation techniques.
Film: Babette’s Feast depicts the passionate pleasures of food and the artistry of 19th-century French cooking. The first Danish film to win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, it’s considered a masterpiece of the “foodie” genre. With subtitles. (Gabriel Axel, Denmark, 1987, 102 mins)
