SLEEPOVER STORIES


Written by Wi-Moto Nokoya, Sleepover Stories is a set of short plays that explore second-class citizenship set in alternate realities involving werewolves, aliens, ghosts and zombies. Originally produced on stage, the work has been adapted to an audio anthology series and continues to investigate who gets to be the hero and why.

Sleepover Stories is a streamed radio drama event that premieres the week of December 20, 2020 and will be made available on-demand to ticket holders for free until January 20, 2021.


Running Time: A 5-part series that runs a total of 35-minutes.




MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT AND DIRECTOR:



WI-MOTO NYOKA is a writer, performer, and transmedia artist. She is the founder of Dusky Projects, creating horror/sci-fi works for young adult and adult audiences. Awards and honors include: Puffin Foundation grant recipient 2012 & 2019, the Brick’s Comic Book Theater Festival 2014 selected librettist, Indie Boots Theater Festival Finalist & Audience Award Honorable Mention 2015, A.R.T/New York Creative Space Grant recipient 2016, MultiStage 2017 New Works Contest Semi-Finalist, One-Eyed Rabbit Black Screenwriters Grant Semi-finalist 2020. Official Selections include: Urban Action Showcase (2016, 2020), MeccaCon International Film Festival (2016-19), Official Latino Short Film Festival (2017-18), The Art of Brooklyn (2018), Motif Film Festival (2018), Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (2020). She holds a BFA in Music Theater from the University of the Arts and an MFA for Performance & Interactive Media Arts from Brooklyn College.



Gineiris Garcia (director) is a New York-born-and-based freelance director. She has assisted directors such as Jackson Gay, Awoye Timpo, Saheem Ali, Lou Moreno and Arpita Mukherjee through MCC Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, Atlantic Theater Company, INTAR Theatre and Hypokrit Theatre Company, respectively. She was recently featured on the NYTW Artistic Instigator collaboration with the Dominican Artist Collective's The Cooking Project  and is currently one of the directors working on the DAC's inaugural series Dominican Love Letters: Cartas a mi gente. She is also the director and co-producer of Black Women Are Scary, the radio-dramatic podcast that celebrates BIPOC writing in horror.
