Siobhan Magnus with Dusty in and Out of Memphis

Siobhan Magnus presents an homage to Dusty Springfield's finest recordings live on stage

@ Cape Cinema off 6A in Dennis, MA

We have been searching for a vehicle or concept which best captures Siobhan’s inner spirit,  truly showcases her talent, and attracts the attention of the music industry.

Our search led us to "Dusty In Memphis", an all time classic album recorded by Dusty Springfield in 1968 and released in 1969. The original album contained eleven tracks, although 24 songs were recorded.

The songs recorded were selected by Dusty and legendary Atlantic Records producer Jerry Wexler from eighty songs submitted by writers: Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Randy Newman, Burt Bacharach, Michel Le Grand, Tony Joe White, David Gates and more.
The album contained the hit record, “Son of a Preacher Man”, but failed to sell well upon its original release in 1969.
Since then, the record found its own place as a classic all time album and is in Rolling Stone magazine's " Top 100 Albums of all Time". Dusty In Memphis is one of only four albums by a female artist to make that list .

Dusty Springfield loved Aretha Franklin and the southern soul sound. She is widely recognized as the first “blue eyed soul” artist. It is no secret that at the time of recording she felt intimidated by the Memphis music scene and the studio musicians who - to Dusty, having grown up in England listening to American music - were “the real deal”.

As a fan of Dusty’s music and of the incredible legacy of this album, Siobhan is challenging herself to represent this collection as a recording and as live concert event.
This spring, Siobhan Magnus is launching “Dusty In Memphis” and will record the original 11 songs along with selections from the additional tracks. While in the studio, a touring band and live show will be developed around the material to tour during the winter of 2016-17.

As the project develops we will film and document all stages of the work, and plan to Webcast it in regular weekly updates to engage and involve Siobhan’s audience in this exciting project.
