Event Description

Sierra Norte’s Mexican corn whisky offering includes an amazing selection of limited release, award winning whiskies from Oaxaca, Mexico.

In this class we will explore Sierra Norte Black, White, and Yellow -  all made from ancestral heirloom corn grown by traditional Oaxacan farmers.  Descendants of the region’s first farmers continue replanting the best seeds from each harvest, as they and their ancestors have done for over 7,000 years. All three whiskeys featured in this class are made with non-GMO corn, distilled separately and matured in French Oak casks to showcase each whiskies' individual character and nuance.

About the whiskeies sampled in this class:

Sierra Norte Yellow

Nose: Buttered popcorn, roasted corn and a floral bouquet, with a strong spicy note.

Palate: Butterscotch, vanilla cream, lemon peel, aromatic clove, smoky barrel char and anise.

Finish: A malty hint, with liquorice, roasted nuts and sweet jasmine.

Sierra Norte White

Nose: Barbecued corn, cooked banana, ripe pear and buttery caramel.

Palate: Apricot jam, peaches and vanilla cream, sweet popcorn and caramelised nuts.

Finish: A hit of spice, with cardamom, black pepper and more sweet popcorn.

Sierra Norte Black

Nose: Cherry jam, orange peel, a vegetal note and banana peel.

Palate: Fairly funky, with ripe plantain and banana, coffee bean, rich brown sugar and salted caramel.

Finish: Marzipan, vanilla sponge and a touch of dusty oak.

If you're taking the online class and would like to taste along, you can purchase these whiskies from our friends at Dreadnought Wines here. ($49.53 each)

In 2018 Sierra Norte was featured as one of Forbes Magazine's Top Non-American Whiskies Of The Year. Sierra Norte Yellow was also named one of Whisky Advocate's Top 20 Whiskeys of 2018!

Filled with dynamic flavor, these smooth and unique whiskies are a must-try.
