Event Description




The Thalian Blackfriars, founded in 1893, are the oldest student theatre group at UGA and the second oldest in the country. They are dedicated to producing and creating new work that excites today’s students. This Festival will showcase new works written and directed by current Thalian Blackfriars.


The Plays:
“Your House on Pine Street and Mine on The Hill” by Jenna Gubran
Directed by Wyn Alyse Thomas
Synopsis: Levi plans a future with Clarice, as she attempts to break news that could change the course of their lives.X


“Waiting For Donny” by Wyn Alyse Thomas
Directed by Jenna GubranX
Synopsis: An absurdist play in which two Republican senators sit on the steps of the capitol waiting for Donald Trump to arrive.X


“The Long Way Down” by Isabel Bobrik
Directed by Alex Hutchison
Synopsis: In this retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Genevive must compete against the Dealer in a poker game to save her husband from death.


“Swipe Right to Die” by Katie Grace Lowrey
Directed by Wyn Alyse Thomas
Synopsis: A serial killer and crime novelist match on Tinder. This is the story of their relationship.


“An Angel Named Cora” by Bridget Blanchard
Directed by Bianca Cardona
Synopsis: Set in 1920s Appalachia, a railroad is being built through a small mountain town. The town pastor believes this to be the beginning of the Judgment Day and, with his wife, creates an angel to protect the town: a teenage girl named Cora. In the days before the train arrives, Cora learns what it means to be alive with the help of her neighbor and friend Inez.
