School Girls is a funny, biting commentary on beauty pageants, as seen through the eyes of young Ghanaian hopefuls attending a boarding school in 1986. Paulina, the reigning queen bee at the Aburi Girls’ school has a squad of minions and is the top choice for the Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant, until a new beautiful and poised transfer student enters the scene.  Plans are foiled, secrets are spilled and feelings are hurt as the girls try to navigate this tricky thing known as adolescence and deal with colorism, classism, and bullying.

Performances will take place in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts located at 922 Park Ave.

FRI 2/24 – 7:30pm
SAT 2/25 - 2:00pm & 7:30pm
SUN 2/26 – 3:00pm

All tickets are general admission. The VCUarts Theatre Box office is now CASHLESS. Please purchase tickets online (vcutheatre.showclix.com) or in-person with a credit/debit card. All ticket holders, please plan to check in at the box office on arrival. The box office opens one hour before performances, and seating typically opens 30 minutes before performances.

School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play has an expected runtime of approximately seventy five minutes and is recommended for ages 12 and up.

Parking: There is a paid parking deck located at Harrison and Broad. You can also use public street parking which follows Richmond City regulations.
