Event Description
In this six-week online writing course, students will learn television writing basics including comedy devices and techniques from Peabody Award winner and 4-time Emmy nominated writer and producer Rich Talarico. Rich will teach comedy and TV writing "must-knows": from how to write jokes, black-outs, to scenes, pilot technique, and more. This class is a great opportunity for those wanting to delve deeper into sketch comedy writing by learning the essentials of writing comedy for the screen, which will also allow students to pick up techniques for developing longer narrative pieces. Students will also learn the valuable writers' room skills of contributing to others’ ideas and pitches and incorporating the suggestions of their peers.

Rich will share his insights from writing and producing 15+ years in late night TV (SNL, MADtv, Key & Peele, The Tonight Show) and from his experiences having co-written five resident company shows for The Second City in Chicago.
