Mabel Normand was a frequent collaborator – both behind and in front of the camera – with Mack Sennett and a mentor to Charlie Chaplin. Here she works with both alongside another female comedic powerhouse: the unstoppable Marie Dressler – a popular stage comedienne making her screen debut in the first feature-length comedy. Chaplin plays a cad who seduces a country bumpkin (Dressler) while attempting to steal her money and hold on to his old girlfriend (Normand).
