Event Description
Possessing Harriet: Family Day

Join us for Family Day before

the 2pm matinee of Possessing Harriet

HartBeat invites audiences to special Family Day workshops before the 2pm matinee. Adults and youth will enjoy an afternoon of creative activities examining the issues presented in the play Possessing Harriet.

Discuss what it means to be free, what are examples of freedom, and what is the cost of freedom. Participate in creative writing worksops, make art, and interact with the gallery activation for Possessing Harriet featuring the work of Hartford fiber artist Edjohnetta Miller and others. Connect to your own ancestors’ journeys, similar to what Ms. Miller’s quilts evoke through a creative lens: What was your ancestors’ path to freedom? How do artists use or imagine that information to heal us? Can we use creativity to heal ourselves? Explore the work of "The Mother of Quilting" Harriet Powell and then enjoy the show!

Lunch will be available.
