Event Description

The Plant Theatre Company (PTC) opens their 2018-19 season with their production of CHICAGO, The Musical, running November 1-3 in the Plant High School auditorium, in South Tampa. The longest-running musical revival of all time, and the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Chicago is set against the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920’s. Based on the true-crime play of the same name, by Maureen Dallas Watkins, Chicago tells the story of a young housewife with vaudevillian aspirations who maliciously murders her on-the- side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, Roxie Hart (Katherine Edgar, 11) turns to rival cellmate, Velma Kelly (Logan Franke, 12), and the jail’s warden, Matron “Mama” Morton (Megan Martinez, 11) for help, and employs the services of Chicago’s slickest and Velma’s current lawyer, Billy Flynn (Jason Calzon, 11) to save her from the gallows.
Velma and Roxie soon begin their fight for the spotlight and Billy’s attention, only to find their real hope for success is a “Perfect. Double. Act.” Choreographed by Seth Travaglino, in the style of Bob Fosse and Ann Reinking, the big dance numbers are sure to entertain, and the timeless, iconic sound of Kander and Ebb’s modern masterpiece, with musical direction by Peri Meisner, will keep one humming the familiar score, long after the show has ended. Directed by Dan Franke, the production stars twenty-eight of Plant High School’s best and brightest young talent, and performances will be held in the Plant High School Auditorium on:
