Event Description

We open our sixth season celebrating the centennial and legacy of Leonard Bernstein with the brilliant score to his first Broadway success - On the Town! Resonance Works takes great inspiration from Bernstein’s "total embrace" of music which epitomized American music in the 20th century with his work as a composer, conductor, educator, and humanitarian. Set during wartime, the story of this 1944 musical centers on the amorous adventures of three sailors who have 24 hours of shore leave in New York City. The score includes the famous “Dance episodes” for orchestra as well as the now iconic songs “New York, New York,” “Lonely Town,” and “Some Other Time.” This concert version includes the entirety of Bernstein's original score, with narration by original collaborators Betty Comden and Adolf Green. We are excited to collaborate with our friends from The Brass Roots, who join forces with our Resonance Chamber Orchestra for these performances!
