Event Description
Natalie Douglas - "Four Women!"

On Thursday, June 9, join acclaimed jazz and cabaret singer Natalie Douglas for her show, "FOUR WOMEN: Nina, Lena, Abbey and Billie" and listen to her majestic voice as she performs the signature works of legends Nina Simone, Lena Horne, Abbey Lincoln, and Billie Holiday.  Called, “a true force of nature,” and "in a league of her own," by Clive Davis of The Times (UK) in TWO of his rare five-star reviews you can expect a magical evening.

Douglas celebrates the extraordinary women who were artists, fans, colleagues, muses and friends who changed the face of musical storytelling.   The evening brings songs like Lena's sensational "Stormy Weather," Nina's electrifying "I Put a Spell on You," Abbey's inspirational "Throw It Away," and, of course, Billie's stunning "God Bless The Child."

Gorgeous pipes combined with effortless vocal styling and inspiring song interpretation are the hallmarks of nightclub diva Natalie Douglas, whose appearances include Birdland Jazz ClubCarnegie Hall, and Cafe Carlyle.

In March 2017, Natalie Douglas was awarded her 8th MAC Award for "Major Recording" for her new album, "Human Heart." This album also was awarded the 2017 Backstage Bistro Award for "Outstanding Recording." Join Natalie as she honors these dynamic, iconic, complex, exhilarating, and fiercely talented Four Women.

Natalie Douglas is a Nightlife, two-time Backstage Bistro, twelve-time MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) & BroadwayWorld Best Cabaret Vocalist Award Winner and recipient of the Donald F. Smith & Margaret Whiting Awards from the Mabel Mercer Foundation. Natalie’s portrait also hangs on the legendary Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame.

Clive Davis writes: "A true force of nature, she squeezes a phenomenal amount of material into the evening. Yet by the end, you simply want her to carry on into the small hours. The artists she is celebrating were strong and often abrasive characters, and all of them had to contend with racism, yet Douglas’s narrative strikes a deft balance between politics and showbiz.   When the mood takes her, she swings as stylishly as any jazz diva; with her Rubenesque figure and plunging cleavage she makes a mesmerizing blues mama as well. She is just as compelling in confessional Broadway mode, and that raucous giggle is the mark of an effervescent comedienne. Whenever she does a girlish double-take and screams “Awesome”, you might as well be listening to Kathy Griffin."

Her performances have brought crowds to their feet across the U.S. and the world and we are so proud to bring her amazing talent to you at the Mansion's 801 Concert Series.
