Inspired by the legacy of musical icon & longtime Pittsburgh resident Betty Davis, this gathering honors women of color in our communities who are artists, musicians, and creators of change. ✦ DISCUSSIONS, 12:30PM-3PM ✦

This series intends to shine light on artistic identity and creative labor. These musicians represent different generations of women who have pushed the boundaries of their field, as well as inspired a space (physical & psychic) for the creation of new creative paradigms & communities.

DANIELLE MAGGIO (PhD U. Pitt Ethnomusicology)
will present on Betty Davis, a pioneer and oft-erased voice in the formation of jazz/rock fusion.

ESG is a seminal post-punk band comprised of women of color who single handedly dismantled and rebuilt a genre - influencing countless generations of artists - and inspiring over 400 samples (that's more than James Brown).

JULIANA HUXTABLE has deftly situated herself to raise visibility and voice for trans women of color across fashion, fine art, DJ/night life culture. Her party Shock Value has been a flagship event in NYC.

AYE NAKO inserts queer and brown identity into punk for today's times.

ANQWENIQUE WINGFIELD's practice expands these stories into classically-trained performance and who occupies these spaces.
