For our second night of What Is: heart(break), New York-based underground electronic artist 8ULENTINA’s first time in Toronto sees them premiere their debut full-length album “Surpassing Disaster,” engaging with the past as an active collaborator instead of a source of nostalgia

Through experimental electronic composition drifting between ambient sound design and Middle Eastern percussive traditions, 8ULENTINA’s “Surpassing Disaster” punctures a new sonic temporality that freely welcomes the necessity of transformation.

In the dualities of the heart, the night also features local musician and multimedia artist Patrick Perez reflecting on sound’s alchemical potential, transforming suffering into moments of sublime that catch one’s breath. Hagop Ohannessian joins this reflection with a live a/v performance to pair, informed by his practice exploring forms and assemblages warping perceptions.
