"Free Your Mind" Improv Workshop

This starts with our core belief that loving the hell out of whatever is happening onstage is the key to strong, successful scenes. Participants will learn that there is no right or wrong way to improvise - only a weak or strong way - and that you become powerful as a performer by embracing your mistakes and failing gloriously. This workshop pairs this sense of artistic freedom with a focus on jumping in with a strong point of view, creating organically as an ensemble, and to confidently navigate the vocabulary and concepts that make-up long-form scenic improv. Free Your Mind culminates in specific, personal notes to challenge each students’ artistic roadblocks and an optional final performance for the public

About Philip Markle
Philip has performed and produced in hundreds of shows and taught students of acting and improv internationally, from Berlin to Bali. Philip graduated from Northwestern University and trained in Chicago at The Annoyance, iO, and Second City. He moved to NYC in 2013 to launch the theatre and training center of The Annoyance Theater NY, where he acted as its Executive Director until Fall 2016. He is now the Founder and Artistic Director of The Brooklyn Comedy Collective, where he currently teaches and performs.

Performance highlights include musically improvising with Baby Wants Candy in Chicago and BLANK: The Musical Off-Broadway in NY and his national-touring musical improv show Happy Karaoke Fun Time. As a storyteller, he has performed at The Moth and The Paper Machete.
