Ready for some smooth, live “yacht rock”?
Multiyear Detroit Music Award winners for Outstanding Tribute Band, this extraordinary six-piece group consists of highly regarded veteran musicians who have all recorded and toured with numerous regional and national artists over the last five decades. The accomplished lineup of Major Dudes delivers impeccable renditions of every Steely Dan Top 40 hit, such as “Do It Again,” “Peg,” and “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” as well as choice deep cuts and the entire classic Aja album.
Major Dudes have been captivating audiences since 2015 with a tight rhythm section, sizzling soloists and the strong lead vocals of Danny Taylor. The band expertly recreates the challenging melodies and complex, dense arrangements of Steely Dan’s music. And the group manages this feat with a band about half the size of most Steely Dan tributes. With multi-tasking musicians who both sing and play, multiple keyboards and creative horn charts that allow two great saxophonists to ably stand in for a larger horn section, the feeling that “it’s all there” is complete. These Dudes really can play Steely Dan!
“Steely chops cutting with a surgical precision through a jazz-rock fusion base,” said one reviewer. "Saw you guys for the first time tonight. Absolutely killed it! Great job on nailing their music," said another.
