Explore Emily Brontë's tiny poetry manuscripts and George Eliot's working notebooks, complete with doodles and rips from everyday life.  


Work/Cited is a program series that showcases the latest scholarship supported by the rich collections of The New York Public Library with a behind-the-scenes look at how the finished product was inspired, researched, and created.


Deborah Lutz, the Thruston B. Morton Endowed Chair at the University of Louisville and author of Victorian Paper Art and Craft: Writers and their Materials, will be in conversation with Elizabeth Denlinger about some of NYPL's archival treasures. Join them as they explore  the manuscripts, notebooks and paper crafts of British women writers in the nineteenth century. 


Deborah Lutz, the Thruston B. Morton Endowed Chair at the University of Louisville, is the author of five books, including Victorian Paper Art and Craft: Writers and their Materials (Oxford UP, 2023); The Brontë Cabinet: Three Lives in Nine Objects (Norton, 2015); and Relics of Death in Victorian Literature and Culture (Cambridge UP, 2015).  She recently received a National Endowment of Humanities Fellowship.
