Douglas Carter Beane is a Tony-nominated playwright and screenwriter best known for the Broadway hits The Little Dog Laughed, Xanadu, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, The Nance, and Lysistrata Jones. He wrote the screenplay for the cult classic film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, and his Off-Broadway work includes the award-winning As Bees in Honey Drown and Advice from a Caterpillar. A master of wit and satire, Beane has earned multiple Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and serves as artistic director of the Drama Dept. Theater Company.
Lewis Flinn is a composer and lyricist. His Broadway credits include Lysistrata Jones (with book by Douglas Carter Beane) and the Tony-nominated The Little Dog Laughed. With Beane, he also created Hood and the upcoming To Wong Foo. Flinn has written music for over 50 productions, including Fairycakes, Die Mommie Die, and The Divine Sister, earning a Drama Desk nomination for The Tribute Artist. His film and TV work includes scores for The 6th Reel, Power of 10, and Million Dollar Password. A Princeton graduate, he lives in NYC with Beane, their children, and two dogs.
Barry Jay Kaplan is the author of the novels Black Orchid (with Nicholas Meyer) and Biscayne, both Literary Guild selections, and has had short stories published widely, with two Pushcart Prize nominations. As a playwright, he received the Whitfield Cooke Best Play Award and NYSCA support, with his work produced internationally. His musical Like Love(music by Lewis Flinn) premiered at NYMF, and Rock and Roy was developed with grants and directed by Simon Callow. He co-authored Actors at Work and The Playwright at Work, and holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he was assistant to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
