Saint Augustine’s Historic Hero, Henry Flagler – Art Collector and Patron of Artists
Join the Lightner Museum and the Florida Humanities as guest lecturer, Sandra Barghini Coombs, discusses local historic hero, Henry Flagler and the important role that he played as a late 19th art collector and patron of the arts. Art curator and author, Barghini Coombs, has written two books on the subject. Her first book, published in 1998, delves into how Henry Flagler served as a patron to visiting visual artists and his creation of St. Augustine’s first artists’ colony. In 2001, while serving as Chief Curator at the Flagler Museum in West Palm Beach, Ms. Barghini Coombs researched and wrote about Henry Flagler as art collector. After the presentation, Sandra Barghini Coombs will join Lightner Museum exhibitions leader, Alison Schaeffler-Murphy, for an exclusive discussion of paintings on exhibit in Lightner Museum’s newly opened American Art Wing gallery. This event is free, but reservations are required.
