Event Description

Designed specifically for families with young children, this event is an introduction to Pittsburgh's iron and steel heritage. Children will learn how iron and steel are made and what it was like to work in a blast furnace, go on an adventure walk through parts of the Carrie Furnaces site, and end with an art project and treats from a cookie table. All children will receive a babushka and a hard hat as part of the tour. We recommend comfortable clothes that can get dirty and sturdy boots or sneakers.

Recommended for ages 4 through 8.

Dates:
Sunday, June 26 - 1:30-3:00 PM
Sunday, July 31 - 1:30-3:00 PM
Sunday, August 21 - 1:30-3:00 PM and 4:00-5:30 PM
Sunday, September 25 - 1:30-3:00 PM

Cost:
$10 per child
$5 per adult

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note that the Carrie Furnaces are part of a former industrial site. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather as most of the tour is outdoors. Heels and/or open-toed shoes are not permitted. At this time the site is not wheelchair accessible.
