2023/2024 Field Trips: Indigenous Peoples Experience Programs


DOES NOT include Fort Edmonton Park General Admission Access

You can book up to 30 students per class, please see our FAQ page for recommended adult:student ratio per age category.


If you're booking for multiple classes, you must register on a separate booking. 


*Please note teachers and adult volunteers are included in the field trip pricing, for up to 8 adults. Additional adult attendees are an added cost.


Availability: October 17th 2023 - April 26th 2024 (Mondays & Fridays)


 $350 + GST = 2 hour program


 $310 + GST = 1.5 hour program



  • All programs are newly designed and curricular-linked, 2 hours long or 1.5 hours long

  • Off-Season Field Trips are available for bookings from October to April (Monday-Friday) Do not include General Admissions to Fort Edmonton Park as the Park is closed to the public.

  • Payment is due upon booking.




Program One: kahkiyaw niwāhkōmākanak: All My Relations 


This interactive and creative program will introduce students to Indigenous cultures and histories in a fun and respectful way. Learning about relationships with ourselves, each other, the land, and all creatures, students will be introduced to Indigenous concepts of balance. Through immersive learning focused on relations, students will participate in land-based activities, engage in tipi teachings, and tell their own constellation story. This program provides opportunities for students to share their personal and cultural stories with the guidance of Indigenous educators.

Program Two: ê-mêskocipayiki ispîhtaskîwina - The Seasons are Changing


How do different seasons impact how we live our lives? What happens when the leaves change colours? What do we do when it gets really cold outside?


With an Indigenous educator, your class will explore the Indigenous Peoples Experience and go on a journey through the four seasons. You will learn about how Indigenous peoples of the past and present live their lives as the seasons change. Students will ask questions and build connections between their own seasonal traditions and the practices of Indigenous peoples.

Program Three: Full of Life: Learn, Experience, Teach Traditional Indigenous Games


Indigenous peoples have dynamic ways of learning. With an Indigenous educator, you and your students will tour through the Indigenous Peoples Experience learning about Indigenous ways of knowing. At each stop along the way, games will be connected to key learnings. Students will employ skills of practice, patience, and enjoyment while learning that survival often rests on the mastery of skills. Students will come to understand that education includes the whole being: the mind, the body, the emotions, and the spirit. This program is a celebration of the ongoing vibrancy of Indigenous life and culture.

Program Four: A Treaty is a Promise


A Treaty is a Promise offers learners an Indigenous perspective on treaties in Canada and a chance to explore what “We Are All Treaty People” means to them. From their encounters with text, photographs, music, and language, learners will gain a deeper appreciation for what Treaty means for all who live in Treaty Territory. This program takes place across multiple eras at Fort Edmonton Park, including the Indigenous Peoples Experience, the 1846 Fort, and 1885 St.


*Please note, topics of residential schools and their continued impact will be discussed in this program.
