Event Description

The History/People of Central Catholic High School

Opened in 1927 with an inaugural class of 488 boys from 42 surrounding parishes in the central section of the city, Central Catholic High School has a 90-year legacy of educating young men.

Guided by the principles of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the Christian Brothers have remained an important part of the Central Catholic High School experience, and Central Catholic is one of the few high schools in the country where Christian Brothers still reside on campus.

The grounds of Central Catholic High School are rich with history, both in the architecture of the buildings and in the many accomplished Pittsburghers who have walked our halls.

Visitors will be guided throughout our campus by Christian Brother and current Principal Brother Tony Baginski, FSC.

Visitors will learn about the history of our buildings, explore the architecture, and learn more about how old meets new with the recent addition of the Zupancic Family STEM Center.

In addition to facilities, visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the prominent alumni, and the faculty and staff who have contributed to the Central Catholic community.

  • Guests should be able to climb several flights of stairs.

  • There are no elevators in the main building.

  • Restroom are not accessible.

  • There is no air conditioning in the upper floors of the main building
