Where does the water from your bathtub go? What about all that rainwater after a summer storm? How does ALCOSAN work every day to keep our rivers and streams clean for this generation and the next?
Hear the answer to this question and more when you visit and tour the ALCOSAN plant. Learn about the conveyance system that brings the wastewater into the plant, and the process by which the Authority treats up to 250 million gallons every day.
The plant is located along the Ohio River on Pittsburgh's Northside; The Allegheny County Sanitary (ALCOSAN) provides wastewater treatment service to 83 communities including the City of Pittsburgh. ALCOSAN 59-acre treatment plant is one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in the Ohio River Valley.
Sturdy, comfortable shoes (preferably steel-toed boots) are suggested.
