Join the Pittsburgh Modern Committee of Preservation Pittsburgh for a curated walking tour of mid-20th-century modern and postmodern architecture, and related sites of public art and design throughout the neighborhood of Oakland and the University of Pittsburgh campus.
We'll explore styles by regional architects including Tasso Katselas, Deeter & Ritchey and Johnstone, Newcomer & Valentour as well as structures by non-local designers including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Edward Larrabee Barnes and Harrison & Abramovitz. Original interiors such as the Hillman Library and Posvar Hall will be included where works by artist Virgil Cantini remain installed.
Part of the Docomomo US Tour day 2018, the annual national celebration of modern archutecture and design featuring public tours and special programs across the United States.
Proceeds from this tour will benefit Preservation Pittsburgh a non-profit advocacy group dedicated to preservation of our region's historic, architectural, cultural and environmental heritage.
