Beginning with the monumental outdoor mosaic installed by artist Virgil Cantini in 1964 and slated for removal and relocation in the near future, join Design Nation for a guided walking tour exploring the relationship between modern & postmodern public art, materials and architectural experience throughout downtown.
Additional sites include sculptor Louise Pershing (1904-1986) nearby the U.S. Steel Tower (Harrison, Abramovitz & Abbe, 1967-71), Mary Callery (1903-1977) within the Alcoa Building, now Regional Enterprise Tower (Harrison & Abramovitz, 1963) and Louise Bourgeois within the Agnes Katz Plaza (Michael Graves with Daniel Kiley, 1999).
Sites which previously featured significant art commissions and projects during the mid and late 20th-century will be visited to observe their change and transformation.
Part of Docomomo US Tour Day 2018, the annual, national celebration of modern architecture and design featuring public tours and special programs across the United States.
