Teacher Bio:

Vivien Wise received her MFA in Fibers and Material Studies at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia. She has a BFA in Fibers from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore. Through explorations of materiality and tactility, her work comments on the concept of shared spaces and connections. Vivien searches for connections between others and herself to find community in this way. She mainly makes objects, in which she incorporates function through either the object itself or an implied action. Additionally, Vivien integrates a personal domestic history, especially connected to her mother and grandmothers. This personal domestic history as well as an interest in the function of objects is based primarily in craft. Vivien is drawn and connected to the process and materiality of the rag rug, the quilt as art object, and the community formed by a knitting circle. Sustainability as a general concept is woven into the fabric of her being and consumption/waste is an important consideration for her.
