Event Description

This Spring, Wonderspaces is bringing a Virtual Reality experience to Liberty Station.  The experience begins with a film called Drawing Room. This VR film is the first fully hand-drawn VR experience by visual artist Jan Rothuizen, known for The Soft Atlas of Amsterdam and his award-winning interactive documentary Refugee Republic. For this project, Rothuizen teamed up with interactive director Sara Kolster and new media collective Zesbaans. Together they recreated in clear lines the interior and the view of a room on the roof of a department store in the center of Amsterdam. The department store invited Rothuizen to spend some time on the roof to create a work of art. Through the eyes and thoughts of the artist, we discover the room and the city below. Drawing Room playfully deals with the question Virtual Reality creates: can being somewhere, an experience, be a work of art in itself?

After Drawing Room, you will go into an interactive VR music video called Show It 2 Me. Created using Tilt Brush's audio reactive brushes and featuring Night Club's single, “Show It 2 Me.” This music video first debuted at SXSW’s Virtual Cinema in 2017. It features art created by Titmouse president and owner Chris Prynoski and Titmouse creative director Antonio Canobbio. This film was also shown in our first Wonderspaces show back in the summer of  2017 as well.

From there, you will go into an extraterrestrial VR world that is built from terrestrial objects called  Shigeto Hovering. This experience is an ethereal environment where the simultaneous destruction and creation of a planet's water source unfold to a uniquely constructed 360-audio spatial mix of Hovering. Hovering was created from digitally-scanned natural elements and is directed by Conor Grebel. The show experience will end on a plank that is 80 stories high. Knees shaky, palms sweaty. You have a choice. Do you walk or do you freeze? Richie's Plank is the only VR experience that lets you clone any real-world plank into the virtual world for 2X the immersion.
