DEAN GIONIS, guitar. KEVIN O'BRIEN, upright bass. EJ KOEPPEL, violin. JOSH ASSAD, guitar & vocals with special guest Mireia Clua, a violinist and composer based in New York City.
Mirea's early childhood training was in classical music in her home country of Andorra, and she went on to study modern music and improvisation in Barcelona, Spain. She was the violinist in the popular music group "Carnal" which won the prestigious Sona9 award in 2004 for best songwriting. She spent many years living in Central America where she founded music projects for children in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. All of these rich musical experiences are reflected in her performances today. Mireia is presenting her new album "The Future of the Rocks" for electric violin and looper pedal, a journey through beautiful abstract worlds that she creates entirely with her violin. Her compositions are a fresh mix of fusion, funk, jazz, latin, pop and world music. And her melodic improvising makes each concert a unique and intimate experience for her audience.
The Hot Club of Buffalo is a 4-piece gypsy jazz band from Buffalo, NY. The group adds some modern twists to traditional gypsy swing. Riffs from Bach, Jimi Hendrix and Steely Dan are as common as quotes from gypsy legend Django Reinhardt. And dance-friendly world music, like Bossa Nova, Choro and Rhumba are a part of every show. So is improvisation. You never know what’s going to happen next.
