Event Description

Studio Visits with FWM Apprentice Alumni

Join us as we reconnect with former FWM Apprentices in their studios across the U.S. and beyond. Apprentice Alumni will offer an introduction to their artistic practice and a behind-the-scenes look at their studios. Learn the myriad of ways that artists pursue their practice.

The College/Postgraduate Apprentice Training program is a founding educational initiative at FWM. In the past 40+ years, artists from all over the world have learned to screenprint large-scale repeat patterns on fabric in our studio, utilizing these skills to transform their individual practices.

Antoine working in the FWM Studio

Alexandra Antoine is an interdisciplinary artist based in Orlando, FL and Chicago, IL. Her work addresses the themes of identity and culture through the use of collage, portraiture, and farming. She uses the portrait as a tool to re/present individuals of the African diaspora while exploring her relationship to them within the larger narrative of her Haitian identity. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Arts Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at Rootwork Gallery, Hyde Park Art Center, Roots & Culture, Roman Susan Gallery, Chicago Art Department and Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago, IL. Her work is also part of the Arts in Embassies program in the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
