Partnering with Pollinators in the Working Landscape
John and Nancy own and operate The Farm Between (www.thefarmbetween.com ), an organic fruit nursery and fruit farm in Jeffersonville VT, where they practice ecological regenerative agriculture. Maintaining a pollinator sanctuary with floral, nesting, and overwintering habitat is a high priority on their farm. John has degrees in ecology and entomology and has worked as a researcher, extension agent, consultant, educator and organic grower for over thirty years. Nancy is a writer, artist, and retired environmental engineering professor. She has degrees in ecology, engineering, art, and writing. The farm and nature are inspiration for much of her creative work (www.northwindarts.com).
This presentation will introduce the common insect pollinators and issues facing them including pesticide toxicity, loss of floral resources and habitat, and disease and parasites. The Haydens recognize and treat pollinators as key partners in their farm business. They will share what they are currently doing on their farm to enhance native bee populations with ideas on what you can do on your land.
The Gardening for Life series is sponsored in part by the Friends of CCMNH and APCC (The Association to Preserve Cape Cod).
