Free Intro to Stand Up Comedy

This free comedy writing and performance workshop is designed to inspire. Part writing, part discussion, and part performance, you get the basics of the joke writing process from a working comedian. Get introduced to the building blocks of comedic writing and start to see yourself as a stand up!

Bio: Maya May is an LA-based writer and stand-up comedian. In 2020 she headlined over 50 colleges for her Virtually There College Comedy Tour which was featured on CNBC, Fox, ABC, and iHeartRadio. Her comedy is just like she is: a healthy balance of optimism and rage, mischievous, and deliciously over-the-top. A crowd-favorite at festivals including All Jane and the Asheville Comedy Festival, Maya has performed everywhere from Chicago’s Laugh Factory to the Hollywood Improv. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Miami where she won TA of the Year for her work teaching ENG209: Introduction to Creative Writing.
